The help desk: Chapter 05
The Reunion Fund
Collecting contributions, fees, how organizers get paid, and how the committee approves payouts.
How do guests chip in?
On an event with a Reunion Fund, guests tap Chip in, pick an amount (from $1 up to $10,000), and pay by card. Payments are processed by Stripe, and Reunion Fund never sees or stores card numbers.
Each contribution gets a receipt and a status page so the contributor can confirm it went through.
What are the fees on contributions?
Two fees come out of each contribution: Reunion Fund's 1% platform fee, and Stripe's card-processing fee (about 2.9% + $0.30, varying slightly by card type and country). There are no monthly fees or hidden charges on the fund itself.
As a rough example, a $100 contribution nets the event about $95.80. The exact amount depends on the card used, which is why we say "about."
How do I receive the money as an organizer?
Connect a payout account from your Profile. We use Stripe, which will verify your identity (a standard requirement for receiving money online). Once connected, contributions accumulate in your payout balance, and approved payouts go to your bank account.

Where does the money sit before it's paid out?
Contributions settle into the organizer's Stripe payout balance and stay there until the committee approves a release. Payouts are deliberately manual, so no one can quietly drain the fund.
Stripe, not Reunion Fund, sets the date each payment clears, and the organizer's Funds tab shows that exact date for anything still settling. Expect a longer wait on the first contributions to a brand-new account, typically around a week, while Stripe finishes verifying it; established accounts clear faster. It varies by bank, card, and country, so the date shown in the dashboard is the one to trust. Nothing is stuck: each contribution becomes available on its own once Stripe clears it.
How are payouts approved?
The event organizer opens a payout request for a milestone, and the committee votes on it. A request needs approvals from at least half of the approver-eligible members, and always at least 2. No one can approve their own request. Once approved, the release is queued and paid out as the funds settle.
This is by design: money only moves when the group agrees it should.
How do guests see where the money goes?
The event page's Milestones tab shows each milestone's funding ("Funded $X of $Y") and the committee's Budget tab tracks spending ("Spent $X of $Y"). Between milestone progress, organizer updates, and committee-approved payouts, every dollar has a paper trail.
Can a contribution be refunded?
Yes, and you can ask for one in the app. Open your Dashboard, go to the Contributions tab, find the contribution, and click Request refund. You can ask for the whole amount or part of it, and add a reason. The request goes to the event organizer, who reviews it; the money moves only once they approve it, and you will see the request's status in that same list.
If you would rather not use the form, or the organizer does not respond, or something looks wrong, email us through our contact page and we will help sort it out.
